Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Flue Liner Replacement: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

We stock and install HeatShield-compatible flue liner replacements across Las Vegas, with most complete liner swaps running $2,800 to $6,500 installed depending on your home’s flue length, accessibility, and whether we’re relining an existing HeatShield system or replacing failed HeatShield ceramic sections. You’ll get a written price before any work starts, and in most cases we can schedule within a few days once we’ve measured. Most Las Vegas homeowners discover they need this when a chimney sweep (ours or someone else’s) runs a camera up the flue and finds cracked HeatShield joints, spalling ceramic, or gaps where the coating has separated from the original clay tiles.

Which HeatShield Models This Applies To

HeatShield doesn’t make traditional rigid liners. Their system is a ceramic cement coating applied to the inside of an existing flue, usually over clay tile. When owners ask about “HeatShield flue liner replacement,” they’re typically dealing with one of three things: the original HeatShield coating has failed, the underlying clay tile has shifted or cracked so severely that re-coating isn’t viable, or the flue was never a good candidate for HeatShield in the first place and now needs a proper insulated liner installed. We work with all of these scenarios.

The model identification is usually not on the liner itself. HeatShield systems are identified by the installer’s documentation and the specific product series used: HeatShield 30, HeatShield Cerfractory Foam, or HeatShield Joint Repair System. If you don’t have that paperwork, we can still figure out what you’re working with during the camera inspection. The real compatibility question isn’t the HeatShield model, it’s whether your existing flue can support another coating application or if you need a full reline with a product like DuraFlex stainless steel or HeatShield’s own Cerfractory system done from scratch. We’re an independent Las Vegas service provider, not affiliated with HeatShield, but we install and repair their systems regularly.

One gotcha we see often in Las Vegas: homes built in the 1980s and 1990s with 8×12 or 8×8 clay tile flues that were never meant to handle the heat cycling of a gas fireplace insert. HeatShield coatings can’t fix a fundamentally undersized flue. If your tile has shifted more than a quarter inch out of alignment, the coating will crack again within a few seasons. We measure everything before recommending a path.

Signs Your HeatShield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing

  • You see white or gray flakes at the base of the fireplace. Spalling ceramic is the most common early sign. HeatShield material breaks down under repeated heating and cooling, and the debris falls into the firebox. If you’re finding gritty powder or small chips, the coating is actively degrading.
  • Moisture staining on the chimney chase or ceiling near the flue. A failed liner lets condensation from the gas appliance seep into surrounding framing. In Las Vegas this often shows up as streaks on the drywall above the fireplace or a musty smell that comes and goes.
  • The fire has become sluggish or won’t stay lit. A compromised flue can’t maintain proper draft. If your gas fireplace logs fire up but the flame looks weak or lazy, or you’re getting intermittent rollout where heat spills back into the room, the venting path may be compromised.
  • You hear flaking or rattling inside the flue when the wind picks up. Loose HeatShield sections or crumbling clay tile behind the coating create debris that shifts. A camera inspection shows exactly what’s moving.
  • The previous sweep found creosote buildup in areas that should be smooth. HeatShield is designed to create a seamless, smooth interior surface. If creosote is accumulating in rough patches or joints, that means the coating has already failed in those areas.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Las Vegas, full HeatShield flue liner replacement typically falls in these ranges:

  • HeatShield joint repair or spot repair: $850 to $1,800. Works when damage is isolated to specific joints and the rest of the coating is sound.
  • Full HeatShield re-coating (Cerfractory Foam system): $2,200 to $4,500, depending on flue height and access.
  • Complete stainless steel reline (DuraFlex or equivalent): $2,800 to $6,500 installed. This is the permanent fix when the original flue is too far gone for coating.

Every price we give includes the camera inspection before work begins, the parts, the labor, the written 365-Day Done Right Promise on the repair, and a free second visit if the repair fails within that year. You’ll get the price in writing before anyone picks up a tool, and we document everything with before-and-after photos through The Relay Visibility Guarantee. No surprises, no “we found more damage” conversations unless we’re showing you the photo that proves it.

DIY or Call Us?

We’ll be honest: this is not a DIY repair. HeatShield application requires specialized pumping equipment, the ceramic material has a working time measured in minutes, and the flue must be cleaned and prepped to exacting standards before any coating goes in. If you’re considering a full stainless reline, you’re dealing with heavy gauge metal, tight clearances, and a connection to your appliance that has to be sealed correctly or you create a carbon monoxide risk. This is one of those repairs where the cost of getting it wrong is not worth whatever you’d save.

What you can safely check yourself: look for the white flakes and moisture staining we mentioned above. Snap a photo of the fireplace from the outside and inside the firebox if you can. Then call us at (725) 600-0308. Cory Mitchell has been diagnosing these exact failures in Las Vegas for years, and I’d rather show you the photo and explain it straight than leave you guessing what’s going on up there.
