Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Copperfield Chimney Cap Installation: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Copperfield chimney caps in Las Vegas, with most installations running between $380 and $650 depending on the cap model, flue size, and roof access. If you already have the Copperfield cap in hand, we can typically get it mounted the same week you call. Most owners discover a problem after a windy spring day when they hear rattling from the chase, or when a monsoon storm blows rain down the flue and they catch a musty smell in the firebox. The cap itself rarely fails, but the mounting hardware, the screening, or the fit against your existing flue tile is another story.
Which Copperfield Models This Applies To
Copperfield makes caps in three main lines: the standard single-flue cap with expanded metal screening, the multi-flue cap that spans two or three adjacent flue tiles, and the top-mount chase cover with an integrated cap. The single-flue units come in standard sizes from 8″ x 8″ up to 13″ x 17″, and the trick is matching your flue tile’s outside dimensions, not the inside opening. If you still have the original packaging or a sticker on the underside of the lid, the model number starts with “CF-” followed by the size. No label? Measure the outside edges of the top flue tile before you call us, because guessing wrong means the cap sits loose or won’t seat at all. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Copperfield, but we install their caps regularly and stock the standard sizes plus the aftermarket mounting brackets that fit their bolt patterns.

Signs Your Copperfield Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing
- Rattling or scraping during wind gusts. The stainless lid is secured with corner bolts that gradually work loose through desert temperature swings. Las Vegas sees enough 20-plus mph days that loose hardware announces itself fast.
- Water staining on the chase exterior or ceiling below the attic. A cap that shifted or a chase cover seam that separated lets rain track down the flue and into the framing. Copperfield chase covers have welded corners, but the sealant joint where the cover meets the chase is what fails.
- Sparrows, starlings, or a nest in the flue. The mesh screening on Copperfield caps is stainless, but birds can still work through if a corner has lifted or if the cap was sized to the wrong flue tile.
- Creosote odor inside the house on mild days. Backdrafting often gets worse when the cap blocks airflow because the screen is packed with soot, not because the cap itself broke.
- Visible tilt from the ground. A cap sitting off-level means the flue tile is cracked, the bracket bent, or the original install was shimmed improperly. Tilt gets worse every season because the wind keeps working the joint.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed pricing in Las Vegas for a Copperfield chimney cap runs roughly $380 to $650. On the low end, that’s a direct swap of a standard single-flue cap on a single-story roof with easy walk-up access. The high end includes multi-flue caps, two-story homes where we set up ladder safety rigging, or jobs where the old cap was so corroded we have to grind out the old bolts. Parts and labor are written separately on the quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for the cap and what goes to the installation. Every install carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means if the cap shifts, the screen fails, or the mounting loosens within a year, we come back and fix it free. The quote is written before any work starts, and you get before-and-after photos of the roof and the cap seat.
DIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely do a ground-level inspection. Look for tilt, missing bolts, daylight through the screening, or rust streaks on the chase. That’s data, and it helps us quote accurately. What you shouldn’t do is climb a Las Vegas roof in July to wrestle a bolted-down stainless cap off a flue tile while balancing on a pitch. Roof work without fall protection is the injury we see most often in this trade, and a two-story mishap doesn’t end well. If your cap is on a second-story chase or the roof pitch is steeper than 5/12, call us. Also call Cory Mitchell directly if you want a photo of what’s actually wrong before anyone touches a wrench. We’ll text you a picture from the roof and explain the fix in plain language, then you decide. That number is (725) 600-0308.
FAQs
A properly installed Copperfield cap typically lasts 10 to 15 years in the Las Vegas Valley, though the lid itself usually outlives the mounting hardware. The real failure point is the stainless bolts and brackets, which loosen and corrode faster than the cap body due to wind vibration and hard water from irrigation overspray. We see caps from other manufacturers that lasted five years because the screening tore loose, but Copperfield’s welded mesh holds up well. Expect to replace the mounting hardware once during the cap’s life, not the cap itself.
Yes, in most cases. If the lid is intact but the mesh is dented or a corner bolt is stripped, we can replace the screen panel and retap the mounting hole without pulling the whole cap off. The exception is a chase cover with rusted-through seams, which needs full replacement because patching never holds through the next winter’s temperature swing. Call (725) 600-0308 and we’ll give you an honest read on whether repair makes sense, with the photo to prove it.
A standard single-flue Copperfield cap swap takes about 45 minutes from ladder-up to ladder-down. A multi-flue cap or a chase cover install runs one to two hours. Most customers in Las Vegas schedule the work for a morning block, and you’ll have a digital invoice paid from your phone before noon.
We stock the most common Copperfield single-flue sizes on our trucks, along with the mounting hardware and standard aftermarket equivalents. If your flue tile is an odd size, we’ll order the correct cap and have the install scheduled within a week. If you already bought a Copperfield cap and it’s sitting in the garage, that works too. Just check the model number before we come out, because an 11″ x 11″ cap won’t seat on a 12″ x 12″ tile and we’d rather not find that out on the roof. Our team also works regularly with DuraFlex liner systems, HeatShield repair compound, and Gelco chase covers, so if the cap issue points to something deeper, we can address it in one visit.
Ready to get your Copperfield cap inspected or replaced? Call (725) 600-0308. A live person answers, we’ll give you a written quote before any work starts, and you’ll get photos of the roof before and after. If it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s our guarantee, and it’s been that way since 2003.
